Summer is the most popular period of the year for weddings in the UK, and with good reason. Who wants to arrive in church on the big day freezing cold and soaked to the bone? We all know the British climate is unpredictable at best, even holding your ceremony in mid-August is not certified to give you a precipitation-free day. The alternative is to fly abroad to tie knot. The Caribbean islands, Mauritius or the Maldives are popular year-round sunshine destinations. Although romantic, one in a lifetime get-aways are an attractive option, the costs can be crippling and going away will be out of the question for many in the current downsturn. Aside from this the patriots among us may actually want to get married in the country we know and love.

One popular tradition is for the bride and groom to don their very finest clothes, and walk from the home to the church. The point of this tradition is to announce and proclaim the wedding celebration. Community members line the streets, and they admire the couple as they stroll by. Since guests are usually invited by way of word-of-mouth, it isn’t surprising that Caribbean weddings are open to whomever shows up, invited or not!
